The group's Christmas meal has been rescheduled for Friday 25th March 2011 in the Gables, Carland, Dungannon.
Mark Farquhar of Shopmobility gave a talk on the local service on the 24th February 2011
There was a fun quiz at Killymoon Golf Club on the 11th March 2011 for the members of the group. This was an excellent night, enjoyed by all.
Keelin O'Neill gave a talk to the group on the 3rd March 2011. Agewell is a local partnership from the Mid Ulster area aimed at improving services for the over 50s.
Many thanks to St Joseph's Bowling Club, Kildress who £1,252.67 to the group. This was the proceeds from a recent bowling tournament. Photos

Cookstown MS Help and Support Group will have their Christmas meal in the Gables at Carland on the 10 December 2010
Cookstown MS Help and Support Group had their AGM on 4th November 2010. Sheila McPherson becomes vice chairman. Peggy McCreesh becomes Honorary Group Member.
Cookstown MS Society would like to thank the EPS Munro Challenge team who donated £2,750 to the group recently. "The challenge, organized by WaterAid, aims to put a team on the top of each of Scotland's Munros and mountains over 3,000 feet in England, Wales and Ireland between 12 noon and 2pm on the 12th June 2010. Such was the enthusiasm at EPS Environmental to rise to the challenge, two teams have been entered; and that’s after discussions of the task in hand including narrow ridges, hags teeth and a devils ladder!"
On the 2nd November the Group travelled the short distance to the Southern Area Hospice Services in Dungannon Hospital. This was followed by lunch in the Gables. Photos
The Group has moved it's Thursday get-togethers to the Methodist Hall. The hall is behind the Methodist Church on Loy Street. The weekly meetings begin at 11am. See it Cookstown Methodist Church in Google Streetview. Entrance to the hall can be gained via the adjacent alley. Many thanks to the Methodist Church for their help.

The Cookstown will start their 2010-11 season of weekly meetings on the Thursday 2nd September after the summer break. The membership fee remains £10 and £5 for carers. Some members have suggested an outing in August to break up the summer. This is being looked into.
The wonderful and generous Shauna Monaghan and husband donated £400 to the group when from her wedding. The group appreciate her goodwill.
Lissan Vintage Tractors donated £3000 to Cookstown MS Help and Support Group from their event in September 2009. Many, many thanks from the group to them for their effort and generosity.
The group end of year meal was held in Sculleys Restaurant on Friday 2nd July. It was an excellent meal, enjoyed by all. Sculley's photos

The group attended the launch of Cookstown's Shop Mobility service on Thursday 28th May. These motorised scooters are available from the Burnavon.
The group have 2 separate Easter Draws running in Conway's shop and Costcutter. The draw will take place on Thursday 8th April. The prize for each is a basket with cuddly toy, Easter egg and chocolate.

The group are investigating Yoga as a therapy. More information will be available in due course.

Members of the group were invited to "Check It Out". This event, at Broughderg Community Centre, was to offer advice and information on a whole range of topics including support services, benefits uptake, home safety and energy efficiency. Members of the group who attended the event on 25th March 2010 were pleased with the information available.

Many thanks to Mary Quinn and Costcutters Cookstown for a donation of £500 through a charity called "Making a Difference Locally".

On the 21st February Dunamore Hall Committee and Kildress Care held a Charity Dance in Dunamore Hall. Larry & Co provided the music. The event raised £860. The group wish to offer an enormous thank you to the organisers and the to the people of Dunamore and Kildress who turned up in great numbers and were extremely charitable on the night.

The Group 's Christmas party will be the final meeting of 2009 on 17th December. The group will resume their normal Thursday morning get -togethers from Thursday 7th January.

Cut Above

Menary's Cookstown are the hosts for 3 gift wrapping days in December. The dates are Sat 12th Dec (2pm-4:30pm), Sat 12th Dec (2pm-4:30pm) and Thurs 24th Dec (2pm-3:30pm). Donations are voluntary.

On Sunday 28th September, Northern Ireland Stroke Association organised a "Dander Round Lough Fea". A group of members donned high-visibiliy jackets to take part. Photos here

The Cookstown started up their 2009-10 season of weekly meetings on the 10th September after the summer break. The membership fee remains £10 and £5 for carers.
Twelve members of the group have had acupuncture based treatments. Most have reported beneficial results. In fact there is a consensus that this is the best therapy so far. Some are also working with herbal medicines.
25th June 2009 will be the last meeting of the year.
We've been asked to create a more comprehensive list of MS links. We'll be working on this over the summer months.. In the meantime we'd recommend the Pathways magazine. Previous editions can be downloaded here for free. They can also be viewed online.
A podiatrist, George McKinney from Portstewart, will be giving a talk to the group. The date is to be decided. The talk will be about feet with regard to MS.
A talk by a nutritional / diet consultant will take place on either 14th or 28th May. The talk, by Sharon King, from Braid Valley Hospital, will focus on food and diet research in relation to multiple sclerosis.
Dr Shi's have offered treatments for current MS members. These acupuncture based treatment will begin on 8th April 2009.
Lissan Vintage Club are having an event for the group in June. Full details to be released later. Collectors are required.
On Thursday 26th March 2009, the Mint Bar in Cookstown had a fundraiser for the Group. Music was by hype a free buffet was included. A very good night was had by all. Photos and final total raised to be published later.
John O'Kane's family had a big birthday party for him and raised £400. Thanks to Moya Doyle (John's daughter) for her kindness.

A night out is planned for Friday 30th January is Sculley's Restaurant in Kildress, Cookstown.
Menarys in Cookstown hosted a gift wrapping service for 4 Saturdays from 29th November to the 20th December. £143.22 pounds were raised. Thanks to the children who did the wrapping and to Menarys
The group purchased a digital camera to cut down on photo developing expenses.
Regarding the oxygen therapy sessions, two of the four participants gave a thumbs up to it and "got a lot out of it".
A bagging day at Asda on 25th October raised 722 pounds. Many thanks to Asda and especially to the children who took part.
Cut Above

On Thursday, 12 June 2008 Teresa O'Kane of "A Cut Above" organised a "Hair and Fashion Extravaganza" in aid of the group and Action Cancer. The event was held in the Glenavon Hotel. A champagne reception was included in the price of 10 pounds entry. Amongst the companies showing their wares were Menarys, Bramble Brides, Guess, Oh-la-la, FCUK, Fusion, Red and Morgan.

An amazing £4,500 pounds was raised on the night which was split equally with Action Cancer.

Many thanks to the organisers for much, much hard work.

The Oldtown Inn Charity Night raised 527 pounds. The night included an auction, a raffle and a quiz. Many thanks to the Oldtown for an excellent evening.
The now annual table quiz in Maghera raised 308 pounds. Again, many thanks to all in Maghera for their generous support once again.
Four members of our group were down to the Newry/Mourne oxygen therapy centre, this Spring. They had to go five days a week Monday to Friday for twenty sessions, That's four weeks. 2 people got a lot out of it, although all said the 100 mile round trip each day was a negative. More information will be posted later.
The golf experiment has now become a fortnightly fixed event because of the positive reactions.

Last meeting of the Cookstown MS Groups 07-08 year will be on Thursday 26th June. Meetings will be held every Thursday till then.

We hope to start bowls also at our weekly sessions for patients. This will entail plastic bowls and skittles in an indoor environment.
We hope to send 3 members of our group down to the Newry/Mourne oxygen therapy centre for intense oxygen therapy again this Spring.
Our new Reflexologist is Valerie Atkinson, from Stewartstown

The group has enlisted a golf professional for an experimental indoor session/therapy for 6 weeks. The golf sessions are aimed at loosening joints, improve touch and provide some light relief for patients. Plastic clubs are used to try to hit short range targets. putting is a lighter option.

The group have been invited to a Table Quiz in Maghera on Friday 18th April at Peter's Bar. This has been organised by a relative of one of our members, Joe McGrath. All proceeds are going to the Cookstown Group.
The charity Pancake Tuesday Dance raise some 1250 pounds. Many thanks to all involved.
A guest book has been added to the website

The charity Pancake Tuesday Dance is to take place on Tuesday 5th Feb 2007 at the Greenvale Hotel, Cookstown. "Deal or No Deal" will be followed by music from This and That, Missing Link and Justin & the Boogiemen. All proceeds are going to the Cookstown MS Group. Compere for the evening will be Seamus McNally. Anyone looking for tickets can contact Denise @ 075 0203 3351.
